Who\'s the Blind Guy

WhoBy SleepMonsters Australia

The Course the same as last year pretty much, although i am sure in an effort to make the course safer for competitors the bike turn-around at West Head was moved back a few hundred metres taking out a steep descent and a nasty little pinch after the turn. Other than that sadly for some, organizers could do nothing to take out the other hills on the course, it was still a 5km climb out of Akuna Bay with a King of the Mountain prize kindly donated by KOM Cyclery, the ride continued out and back on the undulating road to West Head and returned to Akuna Bay.

The Kayak leg then took competitors out of Akuna Bay past Cottage Point and down to Apple Tree Bay.

Then came everyone’s favourite leg, the run, from Apple Tree Bay over the ridge to Bobbin Head and then along the creek climbing up to the firetrails atop the ridgeline and return to Apple Tree Bay.

Race day as this race goes starts early, for me it was 4am, well it should have been, 5am I roll out of bed or more like leap out of bed, trying not to wake our 20 month old, I was supposed to pick up Pete at 5am, some 40mins away, this wasn’t the ideal start to the day. Thanks to a traffic free run Pete and I rolled into Akuna Bay at 6.15am, race start for the Elite was 7am, and we weren’t due off in the pairs till 7.20, not having paddled the K2 we had borrowed it was enough time to set the boat up.
