Millie, Sym and Kohlar take 1st

Millie, Sym and Kohlar take 1stBy Matt Blundell

The 18th August dawned fine and clear the 3rd year in a row the gods had smiled on the racers heading to the Gonatural Multisport Race. A little chilly at 5.15am in the morning but no rain, so looks like it should be a fun day.

I head out to the start picking up my team runner Mike Snell on the way. I know team runner, we should be doing the entire event ourselves but I’ve been busy and Mike has a shoulder injury. So it was a Relay Team for the second year running and we had enlisted ace cyclist Andy Crawley to try and defend our title. We arrive at the start it’s a hum of activity bikes and kayaks everywhere. Start time approaches and still our cyclist Andy hasn’t arrived 1minute before the first wave Andy turns up. He informs us he has just done a lazy 50km to warm up. “maybe I’m not taking this quite seriously enough”.

Gary fires the gun the first wave is off I call this the warrior wave as these pairs will have to be warriors to paddle 12km in the Max adventure double plastic sit on tops(not a great idea to do with a partner or spouse as it could end dreadfully). Soon the horn goes again and again then on the next horn our team is off. Everyone waits with excitement for the first riders to return and before we know it rider after ride is filing into the transition area soon Jarad Kolhar and four others arrive these are the lead individuals, some quick smart transitions and there paddling off into the distance. Soon Millie’s (our team name) rider arrives he has put a massive 5minutes into the next team awesome effort.
