Millie, Sym and Kohlar take 1st

By Matt Blundell

I’m off sprinting down to the water with my kayak I jump in and start paddling. Instantly I reel in some of those warriors I was taking about earlier. I spot Nigel Hoschke an individual but a very good kayaker I soon catch him and we work together to catch and pass many others including Christie Sym the leading lady who is paddling very strongly, Alan Whiteman the eventual winner of the Vet Men’s a few words of encouragement are shared then back down to business. But 15minutes into the paddle leg Nigel gets cramp and I continue on alone hunting down the last individuals catching all but 5 or 6 of the leading males. I finely catch Matt “Moa Man” Acheson a tough seasoned competitor and also part of the Millie squad.

I hand the timing chip over to Mike “The Rock” Snell and he’s off sprinting (yes Michael does get a little excited). I watch as paddlers start filing into the boat ramp and head out onto the run, some wobbly legs after 1hour plus sitting down but they soon warm up for that first hill “well most of them do”.

Just under 3 hours I hear a few claps and see Jarad coming into view 3 wins in 3 years not bad going for the VIC boy and only a minute later Simon Manson powers pass to take second spot, with Paul Robertson rounding out the podium. Mike Snell comes charging up the home straight to be 3rd across the line and 1st relay Team. A little over 30minutes later the ladies winner Christie comes in for yet another win.

Congrats to all the competitors for completing the tough course and Gary and the Max Adventure Team for putting on another great event. Oops nearly forgot great effort by the Moa Man to come home in 5th place after only starting back running a week ago. See you all next year.
